Get your CHP - Biennial Inspection of Terminal (BIT) done now
The California Highway Patrol is asking for CCTA’s help in spreading the word to industry for those that have not paid their Biennial Inspection of Terminal (BIT) fees or have not contacted the CHP to schedule their BIT Inspection, which is required every 25 months. The CHP would rather inspect you than fine you for not being in compliance.
If you own or lease any of the vehicle combinations listed below, please contact the CHP Southern Division Motor Carrier Safety Unit to schedule your inspection:

Out With the Old and In With the New: California Construction Trucking Association (CCTA)
After 70 years, CDTOA has changed its name to the CA. Construction Trucking Association (CCTA), which will allow the association to expand its valuable resources to other groups in the transportation industry. Due to the name change, CCTA will be able to cover several areas in our industry that have not had representation in the past. I’m sure that this change will further serve to strengthen the construction industry.
If you have one truck or a fleet of trucks and you do not belong to a trucking association, you need to stop and take the time and fill out the CCTA membership investment application. Remember, strength is in numbers.

Caltrans:
Tridem Bonus Purple – Equal Axles Weight Distribution for Hauled Vehicle
Caltrans recently signed the Transportation Permit Policy Memorandum (TPPM) 2009-04 on June 7, 2010. We have been working on this effort for many years now; our original proposal was submitted on April 4, 2007, well over three years ago. At our July 12, 2007 conference call meeting, the Variance Workgroup was asked by CARB Structure Maintenance whether this proposal was intended to apply to everyone. We said yes, and were then told that the department could see allowing everyone to travel under this program through California. We were told that if we split the proposal in two, one that would allow “Equal Axle Weight Distribution for Hauled Vehicle for trailers that were less than 10’ wide” and the other “to allow 60,000 lbs. on up to 4 Tridem Groups as long as the trailers were 10’ wide" .

Single-Use Definition, Revisions and Economics 101
The last California Transportation Permits Advisory Council (CTPAC) meeting was held on October 18, 2011 at the San Bernardino California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Facility. Discussed at this meeting were a number of significant issues that center on Caltrans’ definition of “single use” and what it considers minor revisions to existing policy. While the Caltrans representatives understand the potential financial impact to our industry, Caltrans is adamant that it will allow no flexibility when it comes to Caltrans’ definition of “single use.” Additionally, Caltrans and the industry representatives had a difference of opinion as to what constituted minor revisions versus substantial changes to existing policy. This difference of opinion is illustrated below by one of the recent CTPAC work group discussions regarding the compliance program.

City of Hermosa Beach – Excess Permit fees $110 and you have to pick up in person. Requesting LA County to issue on their behalf.
The City is charging $110, which is in excess of the $16 mandated per the California Vehicle Code (CVC) 35795 (b)(1) for a transportation permit.
